Yoga for Anxiety & Depression

Yoga is increasingly acknowledged as a uniquely beneficial component in the treatment of anxiety and depression. The practice of yoga impacts the mind, body, heart, and spirit. This workshop is experiential in nature by including sequences of poses, breathing practices and meditation. The practice is suitable for people new to yoga as well as those who are more seasoned. A discussion on Yoga philosophy, cutting-edge neuroscience research, and the work of 21st century yogis will focus on the therapeutic application of yoga. Wear comfortable, non-binding clothing suitable for exercise. Three hours of continuing Education Credit is available for mental health professionals. Please arrive at the studio 15 minutes early to complete a health questionnaire. This workshop is designed for therapists and their clients.


Chair Yoga Workshop

Chair yoga is a great way to extend the gift of yoga to anyone who may not be able to participate in a regular yoga class. This will be an active practice using a chair, blocks, straps, and blankets. The chair is used as a prop to assist in the task of transitioning up and down off the floor. It will also be used for support in certain poses. In this class, you will learn how you can use a chair and the Universal Principles of Alignment according to Anusara Yoga to assist with your health and vitality, build strength, and increase range of motion. This class is appropriate for those who have chronic joint issues, are of larger build, have difficulty with mobility, or simply wanting to try something new.

Anatomy of Yoga Workshop: The Back Body

Learn in-depth awareness of your body and posture through asana and lecture as we explore the anatomy of the back body and core strength according to Anusara Yoga. We’ll use hands on anatomy to help you learn the body from the inside out. Designed for those who are familiar movement but wish to understand the body better, or for those who know the body well but want to start moving. Open to all levels but particularly beneficial to body workers, yoga teachers and those wishing to deepen their yoga practice.

Friday 6:30 – 8:00 PM (class)…“Flexible Hips”
A perfect end of the week treat. Accessible for All Levels, this class will use very light and gentle Vinyasa to open the hips and legs, finishing on the floor for a complete transformation.

Saturday 9:30 – 11:00 AM (class)… “Leg Conditioning”
A high power vinyasa class that focuses on Standing poses. This class opens and strengthens the whole lower body, hips and low back.

Saturday 12:00 – 2:00 PM (workshop)... “Take a Stand!”
This workshop focuses on the alignment of the lower body through standing poses. Standing poses are one of the most important categories of yoga poses. They are the best preparation for both backbends and seated forward bends. You will learn all the necessary alignment for both the lower and upper bodies through all the different types of standing poses which will give you the understanding to confidently take these poses to you own yoga practice. This workshop is a combination of both discussion & asana. Open to All Levels.

Saturday 4:00 – 6:00 PM (workshop)… “Backbends”

The workshop explores the main actions of backbends. Backbends can be the most therapeutic category f yoga poses. The alignment actions for both the lower and upper bodies will be discussed, demonstrated and experienced. This is critical workshop for anyone who does backbends or wishes to. The workshop will combine discussion and practice. Open to All Levels.

This dynamic vinyasa class empowers the very beauty you are. A deep invigorating class taking you through backbends.

Mitchel Bleier is an internationally recognized yoga teacher, known for his immense knowledge on all yoga topics, especially asana, philosophy, therapeutics, and adjustments. He teaches with passion and offers a kind, generous, humorous, easy, and sophisticated approach. Mitchel’s teaching style offers students precise biomechanical instruction woven with the use of breath and incorporating a playful narrative of Indian philosophy and myth. Mitchel integrates years of study and experiences into his classes. He began his studies with Brian Kest, Tim Miller and Richard Freeman. His love of the Ashtanga Vinyasa style led him to India where he studied with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Mitchel left India to study with John Friend, under whom he was one of only two students to have the privilege to assist and apprentice for 3 years. Mitchel also pursues additional study with Professor Douglas Brooks, a world renowned Tantric Yoga Philosophy scholar. Mitchel has just completed a set of 7 DVD’s which will be released this year.
